研究人员通过支气管镜检查,灌洗和肺活量测定法评估了具有间歇性或轻度/中度持续症状(n = 13)的特应性哮喘年轻成人患者。这些患者的结果和年龄匹配的非哮喘对照组(n = 6),以及丙酸氟替卡松(FP)治疗6周后的自己进行了比较。气管的炎症是通过细胞因子和趋化因子进行评估的。下呼吸道微生物群组成是通过宏基因组鸟枪法测序确定的。

在用FP治疗之前,细胞因子和趋化因子的无监督聚类鉴定了两种哮喘表型(AP),称为AP1AP2,其具有不同的支气管肺泡灌洗炎症特征。AP2AP1相比有更多的阻塞发生。用FP处理后,研究人员观察到MIP-1βTNF-α的减少,以及IL-2的增加。包含MIP-1βTNF-α的高度相关性细胞因子模块与肺功能呈现负相关关系。独立地,IL-2与肺功能呈现正相关关系。此外,气道微生物组成与哮喘表型相关。 AP2FP治疗前富含肺炎链球菌。在治疗前,研究人员在哮喘患者中观察到IL-2或细胞因子模块与气道微生物群组成之间的独特关联,但这种关联在对照组或是FP治疗之后消失。

特应性哮喘的潜在炎症与微生物群的组成有关,也和气道阻塞的严重程度有关。吸入性皮质类固醇的治疗与气道炎症反应对微生物群的变化有关。
