梅奥诊所Nathan LeBrasseur和同事试图通过对小鼠进行实验探究运动是否预防快餐饮食导致的衰老细胞的产生和代谢产物的积累。一组小鼠摄入正常健康饮食,另一组小鼠摄入快餐饮食,食物中富含饱和胆固醇,同时给予小鼠含糖饮料。实验表明,快餐摄入组的小鼠体重明显发生变化,在4个月的时间里小鼠体重增加近3倍。大部分的脂肪积累在小鼠上腹部的内脏器官,使得小鼠易出现与肥胖相关的疾病。若小鼠开始运动,则小鼠的健康状况明显改善。无论是否进食快餐食物,小鼠都能通过运动改善机体状况。在快餐食物组,运动的小鼠较不运动的小鼠BMI和脂肪增长较少,且出现的衰老细胞较少,而不运动的小鼠出现心血管疾病和代谢疾病的风险较大。这表明,不健康饮食和缺乏锻炼会加速机体老化。

LeBrasseur博士指出,一些人认为老化是机体必经的过程,但是却在65或70岁甚至80岁才出现,到那时才会出现阿尔茨海默症、心血管疾病和骨质疏松症。但通过健康饮食和合理锻炼可以延缓机体衰老。

LeBrasseur博士认为我们不必要都成为马拉松运动员,但我们可以找到一些适合机体的方式来延缓衰老,如健康饮食和适当锻炼。
