该机器人的外形类似开瓶器(与其他几款血液微型机器人相似),其作用是打通动脉阻塞,输送抗凝血药物。
这种微型机器人由韩国大邱庆北科学技术院(DGIST)联合全球其他10家研究机构共同研发的,其中就包括费城德雷塞尔大学。德雷塞尔大学生物工程教授敏君·吉姆(MinJun Kim)称,这种机器人的主要成分是无机生物可降解珠(inorganic biodegradable beads),因此不会引发人体免疫响应。它的体积和表面属性还可以调整,以准确应付各种类型的动脉闭塞。
吉姆还透露,研发这种机器人的灵感源自博氏疏螺旋体(Borrelia burgdorferi),即导致莱姆病(Lyme’s Disease)的螺旋形细菌。研究人员表示,开发这种机器人的最终目的是取代传统的动脉清除技术,如支架和血管成形术。
吉姆说:“当前的慢性动脉完全闭塞治疗方法的成功率仅为60%,而我们正在开发的这种方法的成功率有望达到80%至90%。
