美国时间6月7日,Gruber基金会宣布宣布2016年度Gruber神经科学奖将授予世界知名科学家,中科院外籍院士、中科院上海生科院神经科学研究所所长、加州大学伯克利分校杰出生物学荣誉教授蒲慕明,以表彰他在大脑神经可塑性的分子和细胞机制研究方面所做出的开创性工作。

据悉,该奖项将于11月13号在圣地亚哥举行的第46届神经科学年会上颁发给现年67岁的蒲慕明博士。

“通过其创新和巧妙的实验,蒲慕明极大地促进了我们对大脑可塑性在神经细胞层面的认识。换句话来说,由于环境和经验影响,大脑神经细胞是如何具有形成新的连接或改变已有连接强度的能力的”,斯坦福大学生物学教授CarlaShatz博士说,“他帮助我们进一步理解大脑中的突触连接,即对所有大脑功能至关重要的神经细胞之间的接点,是如何被神经电活动增强或减弱”。

除了在突触可塑性领域的创新发现,蒲慕明还在其他很多领域也做出了重要贡献,包括神经细胞的极化,神经肌肉接头的成熟,轴突导向的分子和细胞机制,以及神经营养因子对突触功能的调控。他开辟的许多新的研究途径促进了整个领域的发展。比如他使用神经-肌肉离体培养研究突触可塑性,发现环核苷酸水平可逆转神经生长方向的选择,以及认识到一个突触的可塑性往往可以影响到远处突触的功能。这些研究对于理解大脑信息存取,长期记忆的形成,以及大脑的高等认知功能都有非常重要的意义。

同时,蒲慕明对国际科学研究的发展也有着杰出贡献。从1999年起,他几乎凭一己之力将中国科学院上海生科院神经科学研究所打造成了世界一流的神经科学研究所。

“他是一个非常敬业的科学家”,该奖项的评委会主席Wurtz Robert博士说,“他对神经科学领域的研究影响异常广泛,他获此奖项实至名归”。

据了解,Gruber国际研究奖包括天文学、遗传学、神经科学等三个领域的奖项,每年颁发一次,旨在奖励在上述科学领域做出卓越贡献,对该领域发展有深远影响的科学家。奖金为50万美元。其中神经科学领域的获奖者就包括在2014年获得诺贝尔生理学或医学奖的John OKeefe,他曾于2008年获得Gruber神经科学奖。
