Mol Cell:三体人或是真实!冰冻30年水熊虫“死而复生”

三体人是指刘慈欣科幻小说作品《三体》中的一个外星智慧文明种群。三体人可以主动脱水、休眠的特性,遇到水能够重新复活。这毕竟是科幻小说,但是在现实中,有一种神奇动物似乎有此功能。梅斯医学小编乱想:如果有一天把这个技术,或相关基因全部克隆进入人体内,人类会不会也具备脱水--复水而复活的功能

现在,研究人员可能找到了这种缓步类动物其中一种“超能力”背后的机制:它们能够在干旱的环境中枯竭但继续存活,然后数年甚至数十年后重新水化。

由于生长在苔藓里,水熊虫也被叫做“苔藓猪”,这种缓步类生物以水为家,遍布全世界,其身体表层覆盖着一层水膜,能避免身体干燥,同时可呼吸水膜中的氧气。但当它们的液体家园被蒸发后,这种超级耐旱能力便派上了用场。

研究人员表示,在整个枯萎—水化过程中,水熊虫能丧失体内和细胞中几乎所有的水分。它们还能排出一种独特的无定形蛋白质,并在其细胞内形成一种玻璃样的物质。相关论文近日刊登于《分子细胞》期刊。

这些材料或能包裹和保护重要分子,直到干旱期结束。科学家表示,人们能够借助这种保护蛋白提高作物的耐旱性,以及保护疫苗使其不需要冷冻或冷藏。

据悉,水熊虫是地球上生命力最强的生物,具有强大的生命力与高超的生存本领,甚至可以在没有防护措施的条件下在外太空生存。缓步动物具有四种隐生性(即低湿隐生、低温隐生、变渗隐生和缺氧隐生),能够在恶劣环境下停止所有新陈代谢,等待复活时机 。
