据英国"每日电讯报"报道，英国国家统计局新办公室的数据显示，由于默克公司的卡介苗（BCG）疫苗短缺，膀胱癌的存活率已经下降。

尽管默克公司承诺将其产量翻番，但由于全球需求增加，目前仍处于短缺状态。

数据显示，2016年至2017年，膀胱癌的五年生存率下降2.5％至52.6％，而一年生存率同比下降0.7％至74.1％。

Macmillan Cancer Support的Fran Woodard评论说："今天的数据显示，许多癌症的一年和五年生存率，包括最常见的乳腺癌，结肠癌和前列腺癌，都处于停滞状态。在经历了前几年的一些令人鼓舞的改善之后，这个局面真的令人担忧。"

NHS医疗主任斯蒂芬·鲍威斯反驳说"英国成年人的癌症存活率处于历史最高水平，而儿童的生存率也在上升，这要归功于更高的意识，更好的检测和更多拯救生命的NHS治疗。"
