以前曾有科学家培育出健康完整的老鼠精子，但人类精子还是头一遭。他们是从男人的睾丸中取出尚未成熟的精原细胞样本，然后变换遗传物质成为成熟的精子，并可以冷冻保存。

负责执行这个计划的法国Kallistem公司首席执行官伊莎贝尔(Isabelle Cuoc)表示：“我们的团队是世界上第一个发展可在体外完全形成精子的技术，并且有足够产量作为试管婴儿，这是一个重大的科学成果。”而目前公司计划在两年内进行人体实验，并努力筹资金，希望能带来突破性的治疗，真正造福不孕症病患。
