最近,有研究人员详细地报道了螺旋韧带中,周期细胞的特性。研究包括了15只P6小鼠和6只噪声暴露的P28小鼠,并将这些小鼠为期7天的溴脲苷(BrdU)注射,并且研究人员搜寻了为期长达60天的BrdU保持细胞。免疫组化分析表明BrdU阳性IB4(一个内皮标记)阴性细胞表达了一个早期的SLF标记Pou3f4,但是对裂解的半胱天冬酶却没有该现象。标记研究表明,与其他亚型比较,类型3 SLFs展现出显著更高的BrdU+细胞比例。明显的是,细胞保留BrdU持续到P72,表明了它们分离的速度较慢。在噪声暴露的小鼠中,与其他类型的丢失不同,类型3 SLFs的数目并没有改变并且BrdU结合的磷酸化组蛋白H3阳性类型3细胞从声音暴露的第1天到第14天增加了。更多的是,细胞种植类型1区域,即受损后细胞深刻受损区域,类型3 SLF标记为阳性。总之,在耳蜗侧壁中,类型3 SLFs具有干细胞能力,并且也许导致了侧壁螺旋韧带的内源性再生。操纵类型3细胞也许在潜在的再生疗法中采用。
