The purpose of the journal is to publish both articles presenting original work and review articles on programming systems, structures and theories. The objective is to concentrate on programming languages and the theory of such programming languages. Some of the topics include: syntax, parsing, compilers, complexities, computability, structure, semantics, automatic programming languages, special purpose languages, programming theories, programming documentation, memory management, microprogramming, process control programming, real-time programming, programming for interactive systems and the theory of algorithms, but no actual algorithms themselves. In all of these topics, the higher level aspects are emphasized.
