Risk analysis is the science of putting the future at the service of the present. Through risk analysis we make a range of informed decisions about our environment health safety and social and economic well being. The analysis of risk includes risk assessment risk characterization risk communication risk management and policy relating to risk. Risks include those to human health and the environment both built and natural. Threats come from physical chemical and biological agents as well as from a variety of human activities and natural events. Published for the Society for Risk Analysis Risk Analysis traces the evolution of risk-based thought and its application to the world around us.
