普渡大学研究员Luis Solorio利用聚合物创造了一个逼真的癌症环境,以更好地预测药物如何停止作用。

以前的研究表明,大多数癌症死亡的发生是由于它在体内传播或转移的方式。治疗癌症的一个主要障碍是无法实施转移,并剔除它需要传播的信息。

过去的研究使用三维打印机重新创建受控癌症环境,但这些副本对于药物筛选仍然不够现实。

“我们需要比3D打印机更好的分辨率,”生物医学工程助理教授Solorio说。

Solorio和一组研究人员提出了3D写作,而不是3D打印。他们开发的这种装置是一种3-D喷墨打印机,它在三维打印机上生成聚合物微型组织,因为它们是在人体内形成的,但尺寸更小,更真实,孔径足够大,细胞可以进入聚合物结构就像它们在体内的系统一样。

三维喷墨书写是静电纺丝的一种精细调整形式,用带聚合物溶液的带电注射器抽出纤维,然后将纤维沉积在平板上以形成结构。这种结构是促进细胞活性的支架

迄今为止,Solorio已经使用该设备编写了一种结构,将癌细胞吸引到癌症通常不会发展的小鼠的位置,从而确认该设备可以创建一个可行的癌症环境。

“理想情况下,我们可以使用我们的系统作为一个无偏见的药物筛选平台,我们可以筛查数千种化合物,希望在一周内获得数据,并将其返回给临床医生,以便在相关时间范围内完成,”Solorio说。
