勃林格殷格翰公司和礼来公司今天宣布EAS​​E III期随机对照试验的研究结果显示，empagliflozin联合胰岛素治疗在成人1型糖尿病中的应用符合主要终点。所有研究剂量的empagliflozin（2.5、10和25 mg）均符合主要疗效终点。

目前1型糖尿病影响美国130万成人和全球约3000万成年人。它是一种自身免疫性疾病，患者免疫系统攻击胰腺中的胰岛细胞，并最终破坏它们制造胰岛素的能力，身体不产生足够量的胰岛素，因此需要终身每日胰岛素给药来调节血糖。对于一些患有1型糖尿病的人来说，单独使用胰岛素来管理血糖水平可能具有挑战性。1型糖尿病患者还面临视力下降、心脏病、肾脏疾病和截肢等并发症的风险。尽管胰岛素治疗和患者护理方面取得了显著进展，但在美国，1型糖尿病患者中不到三分之一的患者一直保持着目标血糖水平。
